River and Stream Water Treatment Systems

River and stream water treatment systems remove turbidity, suspended solids, organic matter and microorganisms to produce drinking or process water.

River and stream water is an important source for settlements, agriculture and industry, but its quality changes with the seasons. After heavy rain, turbidity and suspended solids can rise sharply, and the water may carry organic matter, algae, agricultural run-off and microorganisms.

Treatment Stages
  • Intake and screening: removal of leaves, debris and coarse solids
  • Coagulation and flocculation: fine particles are agglomerated with chemical dosing
  • Clarification / settling: flocs are separated from the water
  • Filtration: multimedia or sand filters, or ultrafiltration membranes for consistent quality
  • Activated carbon: removal of odour, taste and organic compounds
  • Disinfection: UV and/or chlorine to make the water microbiologically safe
Designing for Variable Quality

Because raw water quality is not constant, systems are designed for the worst expected conditions, with automatic chemical dosing and turbidity monitoring so that product water remains stable throughout the year.

Why HSA Engineering?

We design river and stream water treatment plants based on water analyses and flow data, and deliver them as skid-mounted, containerised or civil-works plants. Contact us for a site survey and quote.
